Applications for RIKEN IMS Internship Program in Japan 2025 are now open for talented students and fellows from all around the world. During this paid internship program, young international scientists and researchers will carry out research activities related to integrative medical sciences in IMS laboratories. The purpose of RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences is to create innovative medical science which contributes positively in the future of human health.
IMS uses interdisciplinary studies to develop a new research area of integrative medical sciences which includes immunology and physiology, bioinformatics, genome-wide medical science, and molecular, biochemical and quantitative sciences. This internship in Japan for International Students will contribute to the research career development of students. Applicants are encouraged to select research topics which are appropriate to RIKEN IMS.
While applying for IMS internship program for master’s, PhD students, and postdoctoral fellows, applicants should demonstrate their interest to develop their research skills. RIKEN IMS medical research internship will provide platform to young researchers to identify the processes that control or distort body homeostasis and then utilize this knowledge in the development of new medicines, treatments, and therapies.

- Category 1 is for students, which will include travel expenses, housing, and an allowance of 3000 yen per working day.
- Category 2 is for young postdoctoral fellows, which will include travel expenses and housing facility. It will not include any daily allowance.
- Applicants will have the opportunity to select their own host laboratories.

Eligibility Criteria for RIKEN IMS Internship Program 2025 in Japan:
- Candidates applying in Category 1 must be students studying in a Master’s or PhD program or medical students at a level which is equivalent to a Master’s student in Japan.
- Candidates applying in Category 2 must be young postdoctoral fellow who must have obtained their PhD degree within three years.
- Applicants of category 2 must be enrolled in an academic university or institution during the internship period.
- Incomplete and incorrect applications will not be accepted.
How to apply for RIKEN IMS Internship Program in Japan 2025:
- First applicants have to select a RIKEN IMS laboratory where they would like to work from the list of laboratories given at: (https://www.ims.riken.jp/english/laboratories/)).
- Then contact the laboratory to confirm its availability for hosting. Contact details are available on relevant webpages.
- After finding a lab that has accepted to be their host, applicants have to explain the research topic they intend to carry out at RIKEN.
- Applicants have to discuss the research topic with their team leader to ensure that their final research topic proposal is relevant to the work that is being conducted within the host laboratory.
- Applicants have to send an email to the team leader of host laboratory and attach the required documents in English language.

- Research background (1 page A4 size).
- Your desired internship dates (1-3 months).

- A recommendation letter that must be sent directly to the host team leader from the applicant’s supervisor.
