The EUI Leadership Program in Italy 2026 is a fully funded, residential programme offered for five or ten months, starting in September 2026 at the European University Institute in Florence. Designed for mid-career policy professionals, the fellowship provides an opportunity to engage in policy-oriented work at one of Europe’s leading academic institutions. There is no application fee to apply for this fully funded  and applicants are selected based on their professional experience and policy expertise.

The fully funded fellowship in Italy allows participants to enhance their professional development by acquiring high-level, practice-oriented policy and leadership skills throughout the programme duration. EUI Policy Leader Fellows exchange ideas, share professional experiences, and present practical policy solutions through discussions and presentations. Fellows collaborate with professionals from diverse policy fields and apply their expertise to address policy challenges relevant to their countries and beyond.

The opportunity to develop leadership and policy skills in an international environment helps participants strengthen their professional capabilities and analytical skills needed in today’s competitive policy landscape. The residential fellowship supports fellows in developing problem-solving and decision-making abilities to address social, economic, political, and cultural issues of transnational importance. As a highly diverse programme, fellows are selected from different countries and professional backgrounds.

The European University Institute implements the Policy Leader Fellowship in Italy through the Florence School of Transnational Governance. The institute is internationally recognised for its work in social sciences and humanities and has established itself as a transnational hub for research, policy dialogue, and advanced learning. The programme aims to link academic knowledge with real-world policy practice to support evidence-based policymaking and societal improvement.

Benefits of the EUI Leadership Program 2026, Italy:

  • Candidates of all nationalities are eligible to apply.
  • Selected fellows receive a monthly grant of €2,500.
  • A household allowance of up to €310 per month is provided for fellows living with a partner (conditions apply).
  • An additional €210 per month is paid for each dependent child (eligibility conditions apply).
  • Travel expenses are reimbursed for the inbound and outbound journey, including first-class rail or economy-class airfare, up to a maximum of €1,200.
  • Fellows gain the opportunity to develop leadership and policy skills in a European academic and policy environment.

Eligibility Criteria of the EUI Leadership Program 2026, Italy:

  • Mid-career professionals with at least 10 years of relevant professional experience are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must be actively engaged in policy-related work with demonstrated leadership experience or strong leadership potential.
  • Professionals working in civil services, public administration, politics, media, non-governmental organisations, and related policy fields are eligible.
  • Candidates should demonstrate strong motivation, intellectual curiosity, and a clear interest in policy-oriented problem-solving.
  • Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply; EU citizenship is not required.

  • Letter of Motivation in PDF format (maximum 100 words). It should cover your interests, transnational policy issues, and your ambitions and reasons for applying there.
  • Work plan with the title (maximum 1500 words).
  • Copy of Highest Educational certificate.
  • Two letter of reference in PDF format
  • Work sample including either report, article, blog post, etc. (1 to 3).
