Applications for UN Nippon Foundation Training Program in Germany are now open for individuals from across the world. The 9 month program is jointly offered by the Tribunal and Nippon Foundation on dispute settlement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). At the beginning of this fully funded capacity building and training program, fellows will attend four-week Summer Academy of the International Foundation for the Law of the Sea. This course will be helpful for young professionals working on law of the sea and maritime law.
The ITLOS-Nippon Foundation Capacity-Building and Training Programme will have a series of lectures during which fellows will have discussion with their lecturers. The faculty will include Judges of the Tribunal organization, Registry officials, United Nations and international organizations, universities, law firms and other relevant institutions. Participants will get training sessions related to research methods on law of sea disputes and other ocean matters and then conduct research on their own topic by using library facilities of the Tribunal.
United Nations training program in Europe, will include workshops to prepare young professionals before serving in international courts and tribunals as agents, or legal advisers in different cases. Fellows will attend mock cases and do practice of drafting documents of cases, attending oral proceedings, and polishing their presentation skills through audio and visual tools. Study visits during this international capacity building and training fellowship will complement the knowledge acquired and trainings taken in dispute settlement and other topics related to the law of the sea.

Eligibility Criteria for UN Nippon Foundation Training Program 2025 in Germany:
- Applicants should be between 25 to 40 years old.
- Applicants must have a first university degree in law.
- Applicants should be capable of conducting scientific research, study and training.
- Applicants can be junior to mid-level government representatives from an agency or can be researchers from an academic or government institution who are addressing ocean affairs, maritime matters and legal issues related to it.
- Applicants should decide a research topic related to UNCLOS.
- Applicants must be nominated by administration or institution.
- Applicants should have English language proficiency.

How to apply for UN Nippon Foundation Training Program 2025 in Germany?
- Fill in the Fellowship Application Form available.
- Add your signatures and submit the form.
- Nomination Form should be completed, signed and directly submitted by the nominating agency.
- The form submitted should be typed digitally.
- Nominating agencies have to submit 2 copies of the Nomination Form. One scanned copy of the original form including signatures and one electronic copy.
- The Nomination Form has to be sent by e-mail to training@itlos.org
