Applications are now open for the seventh edition of Western Balkans Meet Japan 2027. The Fully Funded Youth Exchange Program will bring together undergraduate and graduate students from different countries. This is a unique opportunity for students interested in understanding about peacebuilding in Japan. Scheduled to take place for 7 days, the program will run from 20-26 January, 2027 in Japan. The cultural and academic program provides a chance for personal and professional growth.
Jointly offered by The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) and the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO), A Bridge into the Future is a youth exchange program designed to increase students’ understanding about Japan and its policy. Furthermore, the program aims to promote mutual cooperation through academic and cultural exchange between Japan and the Western Balkans. During the youth program, students will visit different institutions to explore peace building activities and approaches.
By attending this fully funded program, participants will develop long-term connections with other members. They will be prepared to promote peace in their communities. There is no participation fee and the host organisations will cover travel cost, accommodation and meals during the program. Moreover, the entry fees for scheduled activities in Japan will also be covered. So if you are interested in peace building and harmony, this fully funded cultural and intellectual exchange program can be a life-changing experience for you.

Eligibility Criteria for Western Balkans Meet Japan 2027:
- Applicants must be students who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or PhD program in the Western Balkans.
- Candidates must be 20+ years old.
- Applicants should be living in one of the Western Balkans societies including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, or Serbia.
- They should hold a passport issued by one of the WB6.
- Students who have Japanese nationality are not eligible to apply.
- Candidates should have strong command of English.
- They must be motivated to share information on Japan’s attractions through various communication tools.
- Applicants should have not participated in exchange or any other similar programs offered by the Government of Japan.
- They must have not lived in Japan.
