The USIP Peace Scholar Fellowship program 2025 provides non-residential scholarships to PhD students who are enrolled in U.S. universities and working on their dissertations. The program has supported many researchers who now have professional careers in research, higher education, and policymaking. To fund more fellowships, USIP collaborates with the Minerva Research Initiative.
USIP fellowship program particularly invites members of under-represented groups in the fields of international relations, conflict studies, and related academic fields, as well as diplomacy and international policymaking. Proposals which will suggest ways to minimize conflicts in the Indo Pacific, Europe, Africa, and Middle East where preventive measures systems are weak, overburdened, or dysfunctional will be given priority.
Some of the topics that will receive special attention in this international scholarship include reducing violence and addressing other issues like organized crimes. These crimes cause community instability and encourage migration from Central and South America, the Caribbean, and other regions. The proposals that support democratic transitions and combating violent extremism in important areas, such as East Africa, the Sahel, and West Africa will also be considered.
International research projects can be related to strategies opposition employed by American rivals to create conflict and decrease American influence in countries that are significant to the national security. Fellows will receive stipend of up to $20,000 in 3 installments which can be utilized to cover the cost of living. USIP paid fellowship will give a chance to participate in in-person annual workshop in Washington, D.C which will provide networking opportunities for everyone.

Eligibility Criteria for USIP Peace Scholar Fellowship Program:
- Candidates must have completed all required coursework of Ph.D. and examinations.
- Candidates should have an approved dissertation research proposal before applying.
- Applicant’s who are closely related to the USIP Issue Areas or research priorities of the Minerva Research Initiative will be given priority.
- Applications will be selected on the basis of research proposal and the possibility of implementing them practically.
- Applications which do not include the topics of USIP or Minerva’s objectives will not be selected.
- Peace awards will not be postponed.
