NIAS is calling for applications for Safe Haven Fellowship in Netherlands. This fully funded fellowship Program is an excellent opportunity for scientists, scholars, journalists, writers, and artists. NIAS offers a platform to scholars who are at risk and find it difficult to work on their projects. Through this international fellowship, scholars will relocate temporarily to continue their independent research projects without any interruption. The fellowship will take place for 5 months, from September 2026- January 2027. The fellowship program for international researchers will be held in Amsterdam, having rich culture, diverse museums, restaurants, and festivals. This will be an exciting location with people from diverse ethnic backgrounds and nationalities.
The fully funded program in Europe will include financial support in the form of grants and stipends for covering traveling and other living expenses. Fellows will get a chance to participate in creative writing workshop and weekly academic seminars. They will have lively conversations with each other over the lunch which will be provided 4 days a week. The 5 month fellowship program in Europe will provide participants an opportunity to organise public events, cultural and social activities, and a professional workshop.
During the fellowship program 2026, fellows will get many research facilities including an office with a laptop, phone, printer, internet connection, and accommodation on subsidized rates. They will have access to the library services which will deliver them the required academic material. Two prestigious institutions including the University of Amsterdam and Maastricht University have joined hands with NIAS as official partners of this global fellowship program. The institute intends to maintain balance in terms of gender, career phase, and disciplines while awarding the fellowships. The program can be exclusively beneficial for individuals who are facing difficulties to work due to consequences of conflict or war.

Benefits of NIAS Safe Haven Fellowship in Netherlands:
- Fellows will get a monthly stipend of €3500 to cover their necessary expenses during the program.
- Fellows who are affiliated to Dutch universities will continue to get their salary during the fellowship period. They can apply for Dutch University Grant of €2500 per month.
- Fellows from low income countries can request for additional financial support.

- Fellows who are living in Europe within 500 km from Amsterdam, will get an allowance of 1 return train ticket.

Eligibility Criteria for NIAS Safe Haven Fellowship in Netherlands:
- Applicants affiliated to institutions that are boycotted by the Dutch state are not eligible to apply.
- NIAS invites talented scholars from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean and Latin America.
- Applicants who are submitting a scientific proposal should have minimum 3 years of research experience after completing their doctorate degree
- Applicants who are submitting an artistic or journalistic research proposal should have a PhD. Research experience for them is not mandatory.
- Applicants’ proposed projects should be related to the field of humanities or social sciences.
- Applicants must have excellent English language skills.
