British Council 90th Anniversary Research Fellowships

British Council 90th Anniversary Research Fellowships are offered in collaboration with University of Edinburgh. The purpose of this funded program is to facilitate research that aligns with British Council’s vision “a more peaceful and prosperous world built on trust”. The British Council fellowship program in UK will provide a supportive environment for postdoctoral fellows. They will get networking opportunities with renowned and qualified scholars. Fellows will get a chance to socialize and exchange ideas during their stay at Edinburgh.

British Council International Research Fellowship is offering plenty of benefits. This funded fellowship program will provide a grant of £2,500 per month to the fellows. It will also cover the traveling expenses. Participants will be given office space and they will have access to the institute’s library. Fellows will also get academic guidance throughout the program. During the research fellowship for post-doctoral researchers, fellows will get guidance from a university mentor relevant to their research topic. The fellowship program in Europe will include weekly fellows’ lunch where they can build connections and collaborations. There will be different engaging activities at the Institute along with multiple seminars to test new ideas.

During the international fellowship program, fellows will be given a chance to participate and design funded workshops, conferences, symposium, etc at IASH. British Council postdoctoral fellowships are offered to international early-career researchers. The program duration is 1 year out of which fellows will spend 10 months at University of Edinburgh and 2 months in their respective home countries. Fellows will visit offices of British Council in UK or in their home country to fulfill the knowledge exchange aspect of the fellowship.

Eligibility Criteria for British Council 90th Anniversary Research Fellowships:

  • Applicants should be residing in an ODA-recipient country where British Council is operational (list available on website).
  • Applicants must have completed their PhD within the last 7 years (mention the career or academia breaks, if any).
  • The Research topics should be related to Arts, Education, English language, international relations, international development, peace building, cultural relations and cultural diplomacy.
  • Candidates can select a specific research topic within these broader themes according to their interests and expertise.
  • Candidates should not have a permanent designation at a university.
  • Applicants must not have availed a previous Fellowship at IASH.
  • Fellows should give at least one seminar presentation during the program.
  • At the end, fellows are required to submit a report on their research.
