Applications for Estonia Scholarships for International Students are now open. The program offers multiple opportunities, including summer and winter schools, scholarships for researchers and academic staff, and degree or exchange study options in Estonia. Currently, applications are open for summer school scholarships and research/academic staff grants, while degree and exchange scholarships are not open at the moment. The amount will be paid directly to host Estonian institutions by the Education and Youth Board (Harno). It is a government agency of the Ministry of Education and Research that facilitates the implementation of Estonian education and youth policy. This is a partially funded scholarship program.

Scholarships for Summer and Winter Schools aim to support participation of international students in short summer or winter school courses of Estonian language and culture offered by Estonian institutions of higher education. The schools will also include courses related to degree programs taught in English. The grant for researchers and academic staff will be awarded for teaching or research work in Estonian higher education institutions. These applicants should have an academic position in their home institutes as professor, associate professor, teacher, reader, research fellow, lecturer, or assistant.

The summer and winter courses are offered in language studies, IT, media, international relations, etc. Scholarships for degree and exchange study in Estonia for master’s and doctoral students are offered in all fields, while scholarships for bachelor’s students are only offered in fields related to the Estonian language and culture.  Benefits of Republic of Estonia Government Scholarships for International Students:

Scholarships for summer and winter schools:

  • The scholarship will include up to 700 EUR for the course fee and will be paid directly to the host university.
  • Cost of accommodation for up to 4 weeks may be covered by the host Estonian university (25 EUR per night).

Grant/Scholarship for researchers and academic staff:

  • Researchers can get a short-term grant (1–9 days) or a long-term grant (10 days – 10 calendar months).
  • The subsistence rate will be 45 EUR per day and 660 EUR per month.

Scholarships for degree and exchange study in Estonia:

  • The scholarship opportunity can be used for both exchange and degree studies.
  • Undergraduate students will get scholarships for 12 months.
  • Scholarship amount for bachelor’s and master’s studies is 350 EUR per month.
  • Scholarship amount for doctoral programs is 660 EUR per month.

Eligibility Criteria for Republic of Estonia Scholarships for International Students:

Scholarships for summer and winter schools:

  • Applicants should be bachelor’s, master’s and PhD students who have studied at least one year in their universities before applying.
  • Applicants can contact with the program coordinator directly if they find a suitable course for themselves.
  • Applicants can apply for a scholarship to cover the participation fee for online courses. 
  • Applicants have to pre-register to the course to apply for a scholarship.
  • One applicant can only take one course.
  • Applicants should submit the necessary documents directly to the host institution.
  • Applicants have to submit a report about the activities and costs within one month after the completion of summer or winter school.

Grant/Scholarship for researchers and academic staff: 

  • This scholarship will be awarded to researchers and academic staff of higher education institutions.
  • Applicants should have an academic position in their home institutes.
  • Postdoctoral studies are not offered grants.
  • Participants should stay in Estonia during the grant period.
  • Candidates period of stay in Estonia must begin and end within the academic year.

Scholarships for degree and exchange study in Estonia:

  • These scholarships are for international students who want to study at Estonian higher education institution as a degree or exchange student.
  • Applicants must have a confirmation/admission letter from an Estonian higher education institution.
  • Applicants should be students from the list of eligible countries.
  • Exchange students cannot get scholarship for more than 10 months a year.
