METI Al and Tech Talent Internship in Japan are offered to students who are passionate about Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence. The purpose of METI internship 2025-26 is to increase diversity of IT talent in Japanese companies. During the Japanese internship period, interns will get a chance to learn different professional and technical skills. Before applying, students can attend online information session which will provide an overview of the program. The online seminar will explain benefits of working in Japanese companies and answer questions related to the internship program.
The internship in Japan for AI and Tech will be of 1.5 months and will recruit 1-5 individuals per company. Interns will get real world experience by performing the activities practically. The host organisation will arrange all the necessary equipments required by the interns. It will also cover traveling and accommodation expenses so that students can focus on their work without worrying about finances. After completing the tech internship program successfully, interns will get completion certificate.
During the Japanese Government internship period, interns will perform different activities which will include Digital transformation /New business development leveraging AI technology, Web design and production for overseas markets, Market research, marketing in the intern’s country, and Service development for overseas markets, etc. Students selected for the METI internship will be placed in companies across Japan. The Host companies for internships will be approved by the screening committee. This is an exceptional opportunity for students who wish to have international working experience in the fields of AI and IT.

METI internship Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants should have citizenship of a country listed at ODA recipient countries (as per the DAC List of ODA Recipients) (except the People’s Republic of China).
- Applicants must contribute to the internationalization efforts of Japanese companies, the expansion of international businesses, and building networks with foreign universities.
- Applicants must be living outside of Japan.
- Applicants should have already graduated or expected to graduate from a university.
- Applicants should have good English language skills.
- Applicants should not have Japanese language proficiency equal to or higher than to JLPT N5.
- Applicants should be available for internship activities and trainings at Japanese companies.
- Applicants should meet the additional requirements of individual companies.
