The KUT Special Scholarship Program in Japan is now open for applications. This fully funded scholarship program invites exceptional students from different regions of the world to pursue a 3-year doctoral research program. During the Kochi University of Technology scholarship, students will get education in a supportive environment. They will get exemption from the entrance examination fee, enrollment fee, and tuition fee for 3 years and will also receive a monthly scholarship for living expenses and financial support for travel and initial living costs. The KUT Japan scholarship for international students will be a unique experience as scholars will explore diverse cultures and develop good bonds with their fellows from different backgrounds.
KUT scholarship program for doctoral students is a 3-year research degree program. During this program, students will acquire extensive knowledge and valuable skills to become a qualified researcher. KUT scholarship in Japan for international students is offered in different fields of research which include Intelligent Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Electronic and Photonic Engineering, Architecture and Infrastructure Design, Engineering Science, Informatics, Data and Innovation, and Economics and Management.
During each semester of Japan research scholarship, students will submit their research plan and research report. First and second year doctoral students will get English research writing classes. They will also get Japanese language class for everyday communication. Tutors will assist new international students with academic and daily life matters. Students will get a chance to attend different Japanese cultural activities and programs. Before completing the degree, students must publish at least one research paper in a high-level peer-reviewed journal which will add value to their research experience.

Benefits of KUT Special Scholarship Program in Japan:
- Scholars will receive an exemption from the 15,000 yen entrance examination fee, the 300,000 yen enrollment fee, and the 535,800 yen annual tuition fee for three years.
- Students will receive a scholarship of 150,000 yen per month for three years to support their living expenses.
- International students living outside Japan who have, or intend to obtain, Student residence status will receive 150,000 yen for travel and initial living costs.
- Students may stay at the KUT International House (Kami Campus) or the Takasone Dormitory C (Eikokuji Campus), subject to availability, or arrange private accommodation.
Eligibility Criteria for KUT Special Scholarship Program in Japan:
- Applicants from all countries are eligible to apply.
- A maximum of 3 SSP students can be enrolled concurrently for each supervisor. The list of supervisors available to host SSP students is available on the official website.
- Applicants should have permission from their preferred supervisor to apply for this program.
- Applicants should have a master’s degree or an equivalent degree acquired after 18 years of education, or be scheduled to obtain such a degree before the KUT enrollment date.
- Applicants must be 35 years old or under at the time of enrollment.
- Applicants should have an excellent academic record and strong bachelor’s and master’s degrees from reputable universities.
- Applicants should have the intention, adequate knowledge, and research skills to study in the research field.
- Applicants must have high English proficiency.
How to Apply for the KUT Special Scholarship Program in Japan:
- Applicants have to fill out and submit the Online Pre-Application Request Form.
- Applicants can choose a maximum of two supervisors from the SSP Supervisor List.
- The pre-application request will be sent to the preferred supervisors, who will determine whether the applicant meets their requirements.
- If the preferred supervisor contacts the applicant, the applicant must respond promptly.
- Only applicants who obtain permission from their preferred supervisor can formally apply for the SSP program.
- If permission is obtained from two supervisors, applicants must choose only one supervisor for the formal application.
- Complete and submit the formal application along with all required documents to KUT by post. Do not send the application by email.
- All required documents must reach KUT by the application deadline.
