HKBU International Writers Workshop 2026 in Hong Kong

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) invites passionate writers to attend an exciting workshop, which will take place from 2- 29 March 2026, in Hong Kong. This fully funded HKBU International Writers’ Workshop (IWW) will provide round trip airfare, accommodation, and allowance to cover daily expenses. The Writers-in-Residence Program will run for 4 weeks in the vibrant campus of HKBU. As it is an international workshop, writers from around the world will participate- making it more diverse and fascinating.

The literary program in Hong Kong is free to attend with no registration or participation fee. There is no age restriction. Writers from any age group, who have published at least one book can apply. In the first week of International writing workshop 2026, participants will attend a Welcome Ceremony. They will get to know more about the program and its activities. During the last week, writers will be participating in a Literary Festival. They can share their work if it connects to the theme of IWW Literary Festival that is “Here and There”.

HKBU global writers’ workshop is an incredible opportunity for international writers to attend one of the most prestigious residency programs for writers in Asia. Participants will spend one month in fulfilling their writing goals. Writers who have proficiency in English or Chinese, and are currently living outside of Hong Kong are welcome to apply. The global writers’ program 2026 is accepting applications till 7 September, 2025.

Eligibility Criteria for HKBU International Writers Workshop 2026 in Hong Kong:

Applicants must have at least one published book.
Applicants must not be currently living in Hong Kong. They must reside in any country outside of Hong Kong.
Applicants must have a good command of English or Chinese language ((Mandarin or Cantonese).
Applicants must attend the complete residency program from 2-26 March, 2026.
Applicants must attend the welcome ceremony and literary festival.
Applicants should apply before the deadline.

How to apply for HKBU International Writers Workshop 2026 in Hong Kong?

Applicants have to write Artist’s Statement describing their work and writing plans for the workshop. It must be on A 1-page, single-spaced in English or Chinese. (1 paragraph summary in English is required if the statement is in Chinese).
Applicants have to submit 12-15 pages of their recent work including creative nonfiction, digital writing, drama, fiction, graphic forms, libretti, or poetry.
A CV or resume.
Contact information of two referees.
All application materials should be in 12-point type with 1-inch margins.
