Applications are now open for the European Parliament Sakharov Fellowship 2026. The fully funded fellowship will bring together 14 human rights activists from non-EU countries. This two-week training program in Europe will be held from 7-20 June, 2026, in Brussels, and an EU Member State, in Europe. The European Parliament Fellowship 2026 covers travel, accommodation, and a daily living allowance for the whole duration of training.
The Sakharov Fellowship in Europe aims to train human rights defenders to promote and bring positive change in human rights. Participants will be introduced to the European Union Policies and will also gain practical exposure to the work of the European Parliament and the EU. They will meet Members of Parliament, EU officials, and human rights community in Brussels. During the EU fellowship, human rights defenders will participate in workshops on communication and advocacy, security and safety, misinformation, resilience and well-being, and record keeping of human rights violations.
Fellows will get a chance for personal advocacy, and building professional connections through networking. After attending the international training program on Human Rights, fellows will become part of Parliament’s Sakharov Community of human rights defenders. They will continue to collaborate with EU Delegations in their own countries. The global fellowship program aims to maintain gender balance and diversity, and will select candidates from different countries having varied views and experiences.
