Benefits of the Canada-China Scholars Exchange Program:

Selected scholars will receive comprehensive financial support from both the Canadian and Chinese governments:

  • Waived at participating Chinese institutions.
  • A living allowance to cover daily expenses:
    • 2,500 Yuan/month for Undergraduate students.
    • 3,000 Yuan/month for Master’s students and general scholars.
    • 3,500 Yuan/month for Doctoral students and senior scholars.
  • Free on-campus housing or a subsidy for off-campus living.
  • Return airfare (Canada to China) covered by Global Affairs Canada.

Catgeories and Duration:

  • Students (Non-degree seeking): You can go for 4 to 12 months to take courses or learn the language without getting a degree in China.
  • Students (Graduate degree seeking): You can go for 12 to 24 months if you want to complete a Master’s or PhD degree at a Chinese university.
  • Faculty members and Researchers: You can go for 1 to 12 months to teach or do research.
  • Mid-career Professionals: You can go for 1 to 12 months for professional development or research.

Eligibility Criteria of the Canada-China Scholars Exchange Program:

  • You must be a citizen of Canada to apply for this exchange program.
  • You need to be a full-time student at a Canadian college or university, or working as a professor, researcher, or mid-career professional.
  • You must have a valid Canadian passport that will not expire while you are in China.
  • You should be genuinely interested in learning about China, its language, or its culture.
  • You need to be ready to travel to China to start your program in either September 2026 or February 2027.
  • You cannot hold another major scholarship that offers the same kind of financial support at the same time.
  • You must be proficient in English or French, and if you plan to study in Chinese, you need to meet specific language levels (HSK).

Application Process of the Canada-China Scholars Exchange Program:

  • You must first create an account on the My EduCanada online portal.
  • You need to prepare PDF copies of your passport, school grades, and a resume (CV) to upload.
  • You have to write a letter of intent explaining your goals and why you want to join this program.
  • You need to contact two professors or employers to get letters of recommendation.
  • You must submit your complete application on the EduCanada website before the deadline on January 12, 2026.
  • If you pass the first selection, you will be notified around February 23, 2026.
  • You will then need to fill out a second application form for the China Scholarship Council (CSC) by March 1, 2026.
  • You should also try to contact a Chinese university early to get a pre-admission letter for the second part of the process.
