Call for applciations for the NUS Amgen Scholars Program 2026. This 8-week fully funded summer program will take place in Singapore and Japan. It’s a great opportunity for undergraduate students to conduct research at one of Asia’s top universities — the National University of Singapore (NUS) and participate in the Amgen Scholars Asia Symposium in Japan.  No application fee is required to apply for the NUS Amgen Scholars Program 2026.

The main goal of this summer research program is to support students who want to pursue careers in biology or related fields. This program includes 8 weeks of comprehensive biomedical or biotechnological research experience in the basic and translational sciences. Faculty from the Department of Biological Sciences, and other partner departments from the National University of Singapore will share their experiences and provide research training to the scholars.

During this fully funded summer research program in Singapore, Asian students will attend information sessions related to graduate study opportunities at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Participants will also attend weekly research seminars and scientific conferences, where they can meet and interact with leading scientists and guest speakers. The program offers access to multiple campus facilities, including the library, university health services, and sports centre. This will be an incredible international learning experience with opportunities for social gatherings, cultural exchange, and educational trips.

NUS Amgen Scholars Program 2026 in Singapore & Japan:

International participants:

  • Accommodation will be arranged by the National University of Singapore.
  • Participants will receive a travel grant of up to SGD 1,500, which covers airfare to Singapore from their home country and the return flight from Japan after attending the symposium.
  • A stipend of SGD 6,000 will be provided for the 8-week program to cover living expenses such as local transportation and meals.
  • Visa fees will be covered by the National University of Singapore.

Local Participants:

  • Accommodation will be provided to local students for the duration of the program.
  • Participants will receive a travel grant covering round-trip airfare to and from Japan for the symposium.
  • A stipend of SGD 6,000 will be awarded for the 8-week program to cover living expenses including transportation and meals.

Eligibility Criteria for NUS Amgen Scholars Program 2026:

Applicants applying:

  • Should have interest in life science research particularly in the biotechnology and biomedical fields.
  • Should meet all eligibility criteria before applying.
  • Must be currently studying in an Asian university.
  • Should attach all the documents with their application form mentioned in the application checklist.
  • Cannot do any job or take any other courses during the program.
  • Should attend the complete program including the Symposium.
  • Must attend the orientation, all the conferences, activities and social events.
  • Have to provide a written report after completing their research project.
  • Should have a good command of English.
    • If your university’s medium of instruction is English, you do not need IELTS or TOEFL; instead, you can submit an official letter from your university confirming that your courses are taught in English.
    • If English is not your first language or your current university is not taught in English, you must provide proof of proficiency such as IELTS (minimum overall band 5.5) or TOEFL iBT (minimum score 72).

How to apply for NUS Amgen Scholars Program 2026:

  • Fill out the online application form with your personal and educational details.
  • Answer all required questions carefully.
  • After submitting the form, you will receive an email with instructions to upload your documents.
  • Compile all required documents into a ZIP folder labeled with your full name before uploading.
  • Nominate two faculty members to provide recommendation letters within two weeks.
  • Research projects will only be shared with shortlisted applicants. Projects are assigned based on a ranking system, and not everyone will receive their first choice. Applicants should not contact potential supervisors directly.
  • Host labs and research projects are offered by various departments at NUS, including the Departments of Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology & Immunology.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be informed by email.
