HKBU International Writers Workshop 2027 in Hong Kong (Fully Funded)

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) invites passionate writers to attend an exciting workshop, which will take place from 26 February–25 March 2027 in Hong Kong. This fully funded HKBU International Writers’ Workshop (IWW) will provide roundtrip economy-class airfare, accommodation on HKBU’s campus for 4 weeks, and a per diem to cover daily expenses. The Writers-in-Residence Programme will run for 4 weeks on the vibrant campus of HKBU. As it is an international workshop, writers from around the world will participate, making it more diverse and fascinating.

The literary program in Hong Kong is free to attend, with no registration or participation fee. There is no age restriction. Writers from any age group who have published at least one literary book with a press can apply. In the first week of the International Writers’ Workshop 2027, participants will attend a Welcome Ceremony. They will get to know more about the program and its activities. During the final week, writers will participate in the Literary Festival. They are encouraged to share a piece of writing connected to the theme of the IWW Literary Festival, which is “Inheritance.”

HKBU’s global writers’ workshop is an incredible opportunity for international writers to attend one of the most prestigious residency programs for writers in Asia. Participants will spend one month fulfilling their writing goals. Writers who have a functional command of English or Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese), and are currently living outside Hong Kong, are welcome to apply.

Eligibility Criteria for HKBU International Writers Workshop 2027 in Hong Kong:

  • Applicants must have at least one published literary book with a press.
  • Applicants must not be currently living in Hong Kong. They must reside outside Hong Kong.
  • Applicants must have a functional command of English or Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese).
  • Applicants must attend the complete residency program from 26 February–25 March 2027.
  • Applicants must attend the Welcome Ceremony and Literary Festival.
  • Applicants should submit their application before the deadline.

How to apply for HKBU International Writers Workshop 2027:

  • Applicants have to write a 1-page, single-spaced Artist’s Statement in English or Chinese describing their work and writing goals for the workshop. A 1-paragraph summary in English is required if the statement is written in Chinese.
  • Applicants have to submit 10–12 pages of their recent work, including creative nonfiction, digital writing, drama, fiction, graphic forms, libretti, or poetry.
  • A CV or resume.
  • Contact information, including the email addresses of two referees.
  • All application materials should be in 12-point type with 1-inch margins.
  • Applicants have to send all the above application materials as a single PDF to iww@hkbu.edu.hk before the deadline.
